UK Premier Says Britain Prepares for War
(MENAFN) In a significant policy shift, Premier Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom is transitioning towards a heightened state of military readiness.
This move is part of a sweeping rearmament initiative unveiled in a central speech on Monday.
The plan, described as the Strategic Defense Review, introduces a wide-ranging weapons development agenda, reflecting similar defense strategies adopted by other NATO members.
As part of the announcement, Starmer emphasized the government’s commitment to bolstering military strength.
This follows a statement by UK Defense Secretary John Healey the previous week, where he declared that the UK was sending “a message to Moscow” by channeling substantial financial resources into new ammunition factories, long-distance missile systems, and enhanced combat capabilities.
In response, Russia has accused the West of employing fear-driven language to legitimize the diversion of public finances into defense budgets.
Speaking from a shipbuilding facility in Govan, Glasgow, Starmer stated, “We are moving to war-fighting readiness,” and reaffirmed that “our defense policy will always be NATO first.”
He promised to reshape the nation into “a battle-ready, armor-clad nation with the strongest alliances and the most advanced capabilities equipped for the decades to come.”
Starmer also claimed that these transformations would allow the UK to deliver its “biggest contribution to NATO since its creation.”
Additionally, he committed to making Britain “the fastest innovator in NATO,” with defense science and technology progressing at a “wartime pace.”
According to his projections, these upgrades will render the UK’s armed forces “ten times more lethal by 2035.”
