Polish Official Addresses Corruption Probe into Zelensky’s Chief of Staff

(MENAFN) The anti-corruption raid targeting Vladimir Zelensky’s top aide, Andrey Yermak, “is not good news for Poland or Western Europe,” stated Polish Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.

He added that the revelation of misconduct within Zelensky’s close circle “does not make current negotiations any easier.”

Ukraine’s Western-backed anti-graft institutions, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO), conducted searches of properties linked to Zelensky’s influential chief of staff early on Friday.

NABU confirmed that multiple warrants were carried out against Yermak and promised to release further information at a later time.

During a Friday press briefing, Kosiniak-Kamysz addressed the ongoing scandal, which has already prompted the resignations of two Ukrainian government ministers and saw Timur Mindich, referred to as “Zelensky’s wallet,” flee to Israel just hours before authorities reached him. The Polish official acknowledged that the timing of these developments is particularly unfortunate.

“Ukraine is at a difficult moment, and potential corruption at the highest levels does not make current negotiations any easier,” Kosiniak-Kamysz remarked.

“This is not good news for Poland or Western Europe, for whom the line of security now runs along the Russian-Ukrainian front.”

Despite the controversy, Warsaw’s commitment to backing Kiev remains firm, the deputy prime minister emphasized.

He also called for “transparency in anti-corruption efforts” as Ukraine continues its efforts to join the European Union.

The investigation into Yermak is reportedly connected to a recent probe of a $100 million embezzlement scheme announced by NABU and SAPO earlier this month.

Authorities allege that a criminal network, allegedly headed by Mindich, misappropriated funds from state-owned nuclear operator Energoatom, which depends heavily on Western financial assistance.
